100 silhouettes of birds of the Southeast taken from Audubon’s “Birds of America” series. Liquid asphalt painted on cement panels, 18" x 15" each, 7' x 36' overall.
The birds depicted represent 100 species of North American birds that in decline, some more so than others. The reason for decline is primarily loss of habitat. The materials used, asphalt and cement, represent the destruction of natural wildlife habitats by roads and construction leading to the decline of many bird species. The use of silhouettes represents loss, as in shadows of memory and the use of silhouettes recalls their depiction of tombstones around the time of Audubon.

Artist Statement
My work has been influenced by the art of Asia, especially Japanese art with it's reverence for nature.
For the past five years my main focus has become slowly shifting away from painting and towards photography, which I've worked with all my life. I will be adding my photography to my website soon.
Also, I will be adding more ceramics, which I just began in the last two years and slowly building a series of works.
My website will be changing over the next few months as I had my photos and eliminate much pf my previous works.
